Five things presented by Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine Center: Sport takes on Seattle in 2022 home final | October 2, 2022

Sunday marks Sporting Kansas City’s final home game of the 2022 campaign as well as the penultimate game of the season. Sporting posted an 8-6-2 record in the regular season and won three Open Cup games at Children’s Mercy Park in 2022. Sporting’s world-class football venue also hosted the 1000th competitive game of the club in a 1-0 victory against the San Jose. Earthquakes on August 27.

Sporting regained their home victories in early August in a 4-2 thrashing against LA Galaxy. Since that game, Kansas City has the most points per game (2.12) and the highest winning percentage (.750) in the Western Conference. The club’s 2.63 goals per game ranks second in the league during this period. Sporting will be looking to end the 2022 home season on a high note and continue their perfect run at home.

Home winning streak still alive

The recent form Sporting are in is the best of the 2022 season, especially in front of the home fans. In their last five home matches, the club are a perfect 5-0-0 with 16 goals scored and only four concessions. During this streak, the club eliminated the LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers, Earthquakes, DC United and Minnesota United. Three of those five are currently above the playoff line in the West.

This five-game series was boosted by a flurry of offense and strong defense. Six different players have scored in that streak, punctuated by newcomer Willy Agada’s seven goals. In just 10 starts for the club, Agada already has seven finishes and two assists while leading the club in three multi-goal matches. His compatriot Daniel Salloi has also found the back of the net seven times this season, including three in this run. With a victory on Sunday, Sporting would ride on the six-game winning streak at home until the offseason and the 2023 season on the horizon.
