Japan Partners 55th International Conference

Yes, it has happened, no fake news, the power of the Japanese thoroughbred is now the official partner of the 55th International Conference of Equestrian Authorities.

With the Japan Racing Association being the official partner of this 2021 conference, this is the second year that IFHA has virtually examined the challenges and evolution of racing on a global scale.

The International Federation of Equestrian Authorities, IFHA, offers videos on the IFHA website, which are available on social media, as well as speaker podcasts.

The opening speech was delivered by the new president of IFHA, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, who was elected head of the International Federation after the retirement of Louis Romanet.

“The 55th IFHA International Conference comes at a most important time for our sport and the world,” said Engelbrecht-Bresges, of the challenges of the pandemic and climate change.

“More than ever, we need to work together and harness the wealth of talents and expertise of our members to not only face these challenges, but also ensure that our sport thrives. “

“In the short, medium and long term, this conference gives us the opportunity to examine some key elements of IFHA’s strategy for the future.

“We are fortunate to have world-class speakers who share their perspectives on digitization and the media, equine welfare, climate change and sustainability. “

Michael Mulvhill, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategy and Analytics at FOX Sports, leads guest speakers, as does Jamie Stier, Chair of the IFHA Horse Welfare Committee and Executive Director of Services integrity of Racing Victoria.

Ms Di Arbuthnot follows as Managing Director for Racehorse Recycling and Chair of the International Racehorse Tracking Forum, with Dr Allen Hershkowitz as Founding Director and President of Sport and Sustainability International and Environmental Science at New York Yankees.

The Conference concluded by paying tribute to Louis Romanet who, after 27 years as President, was appointed to the honorary post of President Emeritus, effective October 4, 2021.

In 2020, the Conference experienced a virtual transition due to COVID-19, as in 2019 it brought together delegates, leaders and media from 50 countries, held alongside the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

“IFHA is the world leader in the international sport of thoroughbred racing, seeking to promote all facets of world sport, to protect the well-being of the equine and human athlete.”

“It appears to protect and increase its global social and economic importance for present and future generations, and IFHA’s main areas of activity include:

Development and modification of the International Agreement on Breeding, Racing and Betting (IABRW)
• Development of policies relating to the welfare and safety of horses and riders
• Planning and classification of international races (“black type”)
• Global rankings
• The fight against prohibited equine substances and practices
• Harmonization of racing rules
• Certification of IFHA reference laboratories
• Foster the commercial development of the racing industry on a global scale, ‘

“IFHA is a founding member of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) of the International Confederation of Equestrian Sports and is affiliated with the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). “
