LAHORE: Executive Director of the Punjab Institute of Neuroscience (PINS), Prof. Khalid Mahmood has introduced modern SOPs for compiling drug supply and utilization records. The folder will remain transparent.
In this regard, responsibilities have been assigned to administrative physicians, nursing superintendents and pharmacists.
ED Punjab Institute of Neurosciences said that all local purchase items and surgical disposables will be posted on the withdrawal book with the signature of the senior registrar and head nurse on which each patient’s MR number should be mentioned so that the drugs can reach the affected patients.
Professor Khalid Mehmood said the downgrading of the ward or theater to which the drugs will be delivered from the store should also be checked.
All drugs will be purchased from standard brand name and no compromise will be made on quality while nursing staff will receive drugs from the store and complete patient records will need to be kept up to date.
Professor Khalid Mahmood clarified that the pharmacist will check the medication registers in all areas weekly and informed the MOH in writing.
ED Punjab Institute of Neurosciences added that the nurse responsible for prescribing drugs in the ward or operating theater would be replaced after three months.
This monitoring system will increase the efficiency of the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences.
In addition, the drug supplier will provide daily rates for local purchase and those with lower rates will be given preference so that public funds can be spent on the welfare of as many patients as possible.
